How Does Rhinoplasty Change for Different Ages?

You deserve to feel confident in the face you put forward to the world, whether you are 15 or 75. Rhinoplasty (or a “nose job”) in San Francisco has the power to transform the way you look and the way you feel about yourself. But what is the right age to have it done, and could it be too late (or too early) for you?

Fortunately, rhinoplasty is an accessible procedure for people of almost any age. It evolves as you do, but it always creates the same result: a proportional, symmetrical, attractive nose that feels like “you.”

In this blog post, I will share a bit more about how the procedure changes for different ages and why it is never too late to achieve the nose you have always wanted.

What is the best age for rhinoplasty?

There is no defined “best” age for rhinoplasty. It is largely a procedure you can have done at any time in your life. Rhinoplasties are most popular between the ages of 18 and 34. These ages accounted for just over 50% of all rhinoplasties performed in 2019, according to The Aesthetic Society.

In terms of low age limits, it’s best to wait until your nose has reached its adult size and is finished growing. This is typically around 15 for girls and 17 for boys.

Once your nose has stopped growing, there are no upper age limits for rhinoplasty. You can have the procedure done as long as you are healthy enough to undergo surgery.

What are the benefits of getting rhinoplasty at a younger age?

Getting rhinoplasty early on helps establish your identity with a nose you love as early as possible. By the time your nose stops growing, you are likely familiar with its shape and the improvements you would like to see. Making these changes at a younger age allows you to live with your ideal nose for longer.

If you are not ready to commit to surgery, you can start with a nonsurgical rhinoplasty to temporarily “try out” changes to your nose. Also called a “liquid rhinoplasty,” this approach uses dermal fillers to contour the nose and disguise nasal humps. Learn more about it in this previous blog post.

Can rhinoplasty make you look younger?

While rhinoplasty is not often thought of as an anti-aging procedure, it does have rejuvenating effects for the right candidates. The nose changes as we age, appearing wider, droopier, and more bulbous. Rhinoplasty addresses these changes to restore a more youthful look.

In one study, artificial intelligence found women to look 3 years younger after rhinoplasty. This is most likely the effect of a smaller and more lifted nasal tip, a narrower nasal bridge, and improved symmetry.

If you have noticed changes to your nose over time, you may consider combining rhinoplasty with other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as a facelift. You can discover your best treatment plan by meeting with a rhinoplasty surgeon in San Francisco to discuss your concerns and goals.
