Rhinoplasty by definition is changing the nose. Patients will come in for various reasons, whether it be cosmetic or functional. Typically, somebody who comes in after, say an accident, where they fracture their nose and/or their dislocated septum, where their sometimes in some cases they are born with a deviated septum or septum that's displaced and if it is displaced, it can cause breathing difficulties. The surgery for those patients are slightly different in that where septoplasty will go in there and actually dislocate and relocate the septum and sometimes we will take a little bit of that cartilage what it is mostly made out of, out in order to reposition them. Now, the cosmetic aspects of rhinoplasty. It is the patient who comes in and either has a deformity or wishes to have a different shape of their nose, and a part of the consultation is actually taking photographs of their nose in different positions and using a computer in order to change the shape of the nose on profile and in the frontal view in order to communicate between the patient and myself what their desires are and for me to communicate with them and what can be done.
