A breast lift procedure is a cosmetic surgery treatment that lifts the breasts, providing a more appealing appearance. Unlike a breast augmentation, a breast lift does not increase the size of your breasts, it merely helps to give the breast a lifted, youthful appearance.

Before Breast Lift Surgery

A pre-operative consultation is your first step in getting a breast lift surgery performed. During this consultation, your plastic surgeon will help to determine what technique will best be suitable in providing you with the results you are looking for, and inform you on what you can expect from your treatment. In the weeks prior to your breast lift surgery, you will be advised to quit smoking and taking any blood thinning medication such as ibuprofen or aspirin. You will also be advised to stop consuming alcohol, which can also thin the blood.

During Breast Lift Surgery

Most breast lift surgeries are performed under general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia is administered, the cosmetic surgeon will begin the surgery by making incisions. The surgeon will then remove excess skin, breast tissue, and fat to reshape the breast. The areola is relocated into a higher position, and the skin is lifted and sutured into place to secure the breast. If an increase in breast size is requested, a breast augmentation may be performed at the same time as the breast lift procedure.

After Breast Lift Surgery

Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are normal during the first few days after your breast lift procedure, but most patients are able to return to work and light activities about one week after surgery. Full recovery from a breast lift surgery can take several months, but most patients feel that this recovery period is a fair tradeoff given the results of the procedure. In addition to improved breast appearance, most patients enjoy enhanced self-confidence as a result of their treatment.
